Weta Workshop will reportedly use the same team behind the trilogy’s VFX to create a new Middle Earth AAA game.
- Private Division, the publishing label of Take-Two Interactive, has announced a new Middle-Earth video game.
- This game will involve Weta Workshop, the same VFX studio behind the Oscar-winning The Lord Of The Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson.
- This game will be directly based on the best-selling novels by JRR Tolkein and is slated for a 2024 release.
Take-Two Interactive’s publishing studio, Private Division, has announced a new video game based on JRR Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings novels. Private Division has also announced that renowned New Zealand-based VFX studio Weta Workshop will be working on the game.
Weta Workshop has made a name for itself as the studio that produced the VFX of Oscar-winning movies based on Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings, like the titular Oscar-winning trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy. It also currently lent its talents to create the VFX of the upcoming Amazon series The Lord Of The Rings: The Ring Of Power.
This game will closely follow the story of the books, especially The Silmarillion, that chronologically preceded The Lord Of The Rings and the Hobbit trilogy. However, no other details have been revealed so far. This game is expected to release somewhere around 2024. However, no tentative date has been given now.
Tolkien’s epic high fantasy novels have seen video game adaptations so far. This includes the action-oriented Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. A fairly popular online MMORPG game, The Lord Of The Rings: Online, has also been around for some time. The Lord of The Rings: Gollum is the next upcoming game on this list, focusing on a more stealth-based gameplay.
However, Weta Workshop has claimed that this game will be “vastly different from previous games.”
