Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – Detailed Maps, Equipment, Characters, And Plot (Beginners Guide)
Welcome To The Brotherhood
Welcome to Animus 2.0, the machine that lets you relive the memories of your ancestors stored in your DNA.
Using this device, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – Desmond Miles, experiences the story of his ancestor Ezio, who was the master assassin in possession of the Apple of Eden – an object set to cause doomsday in the present day.
In this game, your objective is to explore medieval Rome to find out the location of the Apple of Eden. To do so, you need to sneakily pass through the guards undetected (or murder them brutally on sight if you want to) and liberate Rome from the clutches of the tyrant pope Rodrigo Borgia.
You can help many people along the way and gain their favors that will aid you in your journey. Arm yourself with your sword, crossbow, and trusty hidden blade to dispose of enemies in any violent manner you wish to. Be it slaughtering them one by one or going entirely Conan the Barbarian – the choice is yours.
You are free to explore the city of Rome on horseback and free it from the clutches of the Borgia family, who are also after the Apple of Eden. Alongside the medieval storyline of Ezio, you also follow the current storyline of Desmond. This revolves around finding the Apple to prevent doomsday before the modern-day Templars do so.
Characters
The most important characters of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and their story so far after the events of Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2 are:
1. Ezio Auditore Da Firenze
Born in 1459, Ezio was a Florentine noble who was unaware of his heritage as a member of the ancient assassins’ order. Introduced in Assassins Creed 2, Ezio witnessed his father and his brothers hanging in the hands of the master of the Templar Order – Rodrigo Borgia.
“I have lived my life as best I could, not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon; and here at last, I discover a strange truth. That I am only a conduit, for a message that eludes my understanding.”
After he flees from Florence with his mother and sister, he trains under his uncle – Mario Auditore, to become the next leader of the Assassin’s Order. After traveling through medieval Florence, Venice, and Rome, he finally confronts Rodrigo at the Papal church.
However, to his surprise, he finds out that Rodrigo wanted to use the power of the Apple of Eden – a mythical object that can bring forth the end of humankind. So at the end of Assassin’s Creed 2, he spares Rodrigo.
Ezio is a charismatic nobleman who has all the qualities of a leader. He is good in different forms of combat and is good at assassinating people. He is a good flirt, being a womanizer in his youth. He is also a good speaker, able to inspire the Assassin’s Order to achieve more remarkable feats than before.
2. Desmond Miles
The other protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed series, Desmond Miles, is the descendant of Ezio Auditore and Altair from Assassins Creed. Abstergo Industries hire him to be the test subject for their Project Animus – a machine that lets you virtually relive the memories of your ancestors stored in your DNA.
“In a few short months my life changed forever. I know my easiest days are behind me, but I don’t want them back – not now. My name is Desmond Miles, and I am an Assassin.”
However, he soon discovers that Abstergo is just a front for the modern d ayTemplars, who have the goal of world domination using the mythical Apple of Eden. After realizing this, he flees Abstergo with his friends Lucy Stillman, Shaun Hastings, and Rebecca Crane – survivors of the Assassins’ Order.
3. Lucy Stillman
“Sometimes, I feel so disconnected from everything out there. Nearly a decade of my life gone, searching for those Pieces of Eden.”
An employee of Abstergo Industries, she is secretly a member of the Assassin’s Order. AShe has the goal of helping Desmond find the Apple of Eden so that it does not fall into the hands of the Templars.
4. Leonardo Da Vinci
“I’m not content to merely to capture the world. I want to change it.”
A name that needs no introduction, this eccentric renaissance scientist makes an appearance in Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood as an ally of Ezio. He is responsible for creating many of his weapons and attachments like the winged glider.
5. Rodrigo Borgia
The primary antagonist of Assassin’s Creed 2, Rodrigo gained significant power in Italy by becoming Pope Alexander VI. He is the leader of the Templar’s Order and has the goal of wiping out the Assassin’s Order, starting with the family of Ezio.
“It’s not approval I’m after. Just power.”
He was later confronted and defeated by Ezio towards the end of Assassin’s Creed 2. However, he was spared by Ezio since he believed that killing him wouldn’t bring his family back.
6. Cesare Borgia
“Father. Do you not see? I control all of this. If I want to live, I live. If I want to take, I take. If I want you to die, you die!”
The primary antagonist of this game is the son of Rodrigo Borgia. He is known for being extremely ruthless, treating enemies and friends alike with no mercy. He plans to overthrow his father and take over the Papal army to find the Apple of Eden and conquer the world. Also, He is a part of the Templar’s Order.
Plot
The main plot of the story revolves around the longstanding bloody feud between the Templar’s Orsdre and the Assassin’s Order. There are two plot threads taking place at two different timelines. The modern timeline revolves around Desmond Miles and his quest to save the world from armageddon. The medieval timeline revolves around Ezio Auditore, the nobleman turned assassin who heads the Assassin’s Order to overthrow the tyrants of Italy and bring back peace.
“I thought my work was done. I was wrong. Once more, I must venture into the fray. By recruiting enemies of the state, we arm those who have been disarmed by the Borgia. The greed, the corruption, the tyranny my enemies have spread will burn to the ground. From the ashes of vengeance, a new Rome will rise.”
In Assassin’s Creed which takes place in 1191, Desmond follows the life of Altair and finds out about the mystery of the Apple of Eden. He soon found out that the apple was spotted in the possession of Ezio, his ancestor. Desmond starts reliving the memories of Ezio in Assassin’s Creed 2.
After witnessing the unlawful hanging of his father and brothers by Pope Rodrigo in 1477, Ezio learns about his heritage as an assassin and begins training with his uncle Mario. Soon, he invades the papal church of Rome and confronts Rodrigo.
Here, Ezio defeats him and discovers Minerva, an ancient being that came before humans. She explains that humanity is on a countdown towards doomsday, and only the Apple of Eden can stop it.
Later, he returned to Monteriggioni in 1499, which was invaded by Cesare Borgio, the son of Rodrigo. After seeing his uncle Mario die, he travels to Rome to rebuild the Assassin’s Order and avenge his fallen comrades and uncle.
The story of Assassins Creed Brotherhood starts here, as you control Ezio to free Rome from the oppressive rule of the Borgia family and find the location of the Apple of Eden.
Maps
In Assassins Creed Brotherhood, you are free to explore 16th century Rome, with your objective being to liberate the people of Rome from the rule of the Borgia. You do so by liberating parts of the city, one by one. The districts of the city that you get to explore are:
1. Centro District
After liberating the five Borgia towers of this region, this district became fully traversable. Tiber Island, the stronghold of the Assassin’s Order, is located in the middle of this district. Ezio also controls the Rosa In Fiore, a brothel that acts as the spy network for the Assassins. It also features certain landmarks like the Pantheon, the Palazzo Senatorio, and the Mauseleo di Augusto.
2. Campagna District
This area becomes fully reversible after you burn down four Borgia towers. Being the primary marketplace of Rome, there are various shops in the area, selling weapons, armors, and more. You will also get to establish the Barracks, the guild of the mercenaries. This district is home to landmarks like the Castra Praetoria, and the Mercati di Traiano.
3. Antico District
Located on the outskirts of Rome, this place has only three Borgia towers for you to clear. You also get to establish the La Volpe Addormentata – the Thieves Guild. Landmarks in the area like the Colosseum, Lateran Palace, Pyramid of Cestius, and the Baths of Trajan all have secret entrances to the lairs of Romulus.
4. Vaticano District
The smallest (and their richest) district of the game, this district has no Borgia towers to burn down. This area can only be reached by crossing the Tiber river. During the final mission of Assassin’s Creed 2, Ezio and Mario infiltrate the Vatican to put an end to Rodrigo Borgia.
In this game, Ezio had to rescue Caterina Sforza from imprisonment and steal the Apple of Eden. A Lair of Romulus is located inside the St. Peters Basilica, with other great landmarks to explore like the Sistine Chapel and the Castel Sant’Angelo.
Equipment
There are various types of equipment Ezio can equip. They are:
Weapons
Ezio can equip various types of weapons, ranging from light weapons like throwing daggers and swords, to heavier weapons like halberds and axes. Ezio can also equip crossbows to take out enemies at a distance.
His most important weapon of Ezio is his hidden blades, which he conceals in his arms. This is the perfect weapon for assassinations since all you need to do is sneak up behind an enemy and stab them to their deaths.
Armor
Ezio can equip various pieces of armor, like pauldrons, chest pieces, gauntlets, and more. While limited in quantity compared to the number of weapons available, they are pretty valuable nonetheless. The best armor in the game – the Armor of Brutus, can only be equipped after solving the puzzles inside all of the five Lairs of Romulus scattered throughout Rome.
