Among Horrors Of AI: Websites Creating Deepfakes by ‘Undressing’ Women Using AI Gaining Millions Of Visitors
We were warned by Elon Musk about the dangers of AI and it seems like he was right after all. Was there so little problems for women in regard to their security that now we have to worry about AI able to undress fully clothed women images and videos.
A study found that millions of people have visited websites that use AI to manipulate videos and images of people, especially women by undressing them. The study was conducted by Graphika, a social media analytics firm, stated more than 24 million people have been visiting these websites within the month of September.
This finding has highlighted the misuse of AI that needs strict laws to stop them. These website providers promotes their “services” using different social media platforms as they are popular among the youths. This marketing technique diverts traffic towards their websites in millions.
The study also found that referral link spam volume has increased by 2000 percent on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), or Reddit since last year.
Earlier this year, deepfakes of actress like Kajol and Rashmika Mandanna went viral on social media. These clips of actresses prompted responses from several public figures and highlighted the threats of AI tools when in the hands of evil doers.
These websites are emerging on the web due to increased accessibility of open-source AI highlighted the study. This open-access to AI has led to websites producing realistic NCII with the help of AI image diffusion models at large scale. Since AI tools like these cuts down on the cost and time for editing such realistic images, it makes it easier to generate these images.
The study stated, “Without such providers, their customers would need to host, maintain, and run their own custom image diffusion models – a time-consuming and sometimes expensive process.”
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi have expressed his concerns over deepfakes and AI tools misuse while addressing a gathering. The Union governments is said to be planning on introducing new regulations to regulate the spread of deepfakes.
As of now the increased accessibility will make more websites that misuse the AI tools instead of using it for something good.
