Elden Ring Becomes The Most Watched Game On YouTube, Beating GTA 5
The collaboration between FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki and Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin also became the best-selling game of 2022 so far.
Key Points:
- FromSoftware’s Elden Ring has become the most watched game on Youtube, surpassing the viewership of Grand Theft Auto 5.
- Elden Ring also had the biggest gaming launch in terms of viewership on YouTube, gaining approximately 3.5 Billion views in just 60 days.
- Most analysts even predict that the game will still continue to sell well and will even surpass the likes of the new Call of Duty game slated to release this year.
FromSoftware’s open-world action-RPG Elden Ring became the most watched game on YouTube after launch. The game has garnered almost 3.5 Billion views on YouTube, beating previous record holders Grand Theft Auto 5 (1.9 Billion) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (1.4 Billion views).
Elden Ring was released on 24 February 2022. Before its release, the game gained significant hype, primarily because of two reasons. The first reason was that it is the next game in the souls series of notoriously difficult video games created by Hidetaka Miyazaki. Secondly, the story of this game was written by George RR Martin, the author of the Game of Thrones novels.
When it comes to viewership, the stats have varied. Elden Ring playthroughs and walkthrough videos were seen the most, which resulted in 72% of the total watch time. On the other hand, Elden Ring live streams amounted to 26% of the total watch time. Finally, YouTube shorts landed just 2% of the total watch time.
Many video game analysts have stated that this game is one of the best video games of all time, and will soon outsell many other video games. Even video games expected to get high sales, like the upcoming Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, will not come close to it.
