Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Beginner’s Guide – Sneaking Past The Gates Of Valhalla

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When Assassins Creed Valhalla first came out in 2020, fans of the series were surprised at its premise. I mean, being a Viking warrior who also happens to be a sneaky assassin doesn’t seem to gel well together.

However, Ubisoft did manage to succeed all expectations and turn this title into one of the best of the reboot trilogy, albeit being dragged out a bit too long.

But that did not stop me from playing this game and 100% completing it. Well, here’s what I want you to do – download this game and do the same too. While the journey may be long, it is 100% worth it.

Therefore, before you start your journey of becoming a Viking legend and be greeted by Odion in the halls of Valhalla, read this Assassins Creed Valhalla Beginners Guide first. Here, I have laid out all the best tips that I could come up with to help new players get started on the right path in this massive, open-world stealth action game.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Characters You Should Know About

The story of this game is pretty long and complicated, with lots of different characters, settings, and factions to remember. However, to simplify things here is a quick look at the main characters of this game you should know about.

Eivor Varinsdottir

Eivor Varinsdottir

You are less mine than I am yours. And I ask of you only this, keep me honest in the times to come.

The main protagonist of this game, Eivor, is the son/daughter (depending on which gender you chose) of nobles Vari and Rosta. After your parents get killed in a raid by Kjotve the Cruel, King Stybjorn Sigvaldisson adopts you.

You train your entire life in hopes of slitting the throats of Kjotve and soon participate in the Viking raids of Saxon.

Fun Fact: Female Eivor is considered to be the canonical Eivor, similar to how Kassandra was considered canon in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I guess Ubisoft has a thing for making female protagonists canon in the story!

Basim Ibn Ishaq

Basim Ibn Ishaq

But a man you trust with anything… can take everything.

Basim is a member of the Assassins Brotherhood (known as the Hidden Ones since Assassins Creed Origins). He plays a significant role in the story to help Eivor become an assassin.

He and Hytham (his apprentice) gifts Eivor with the hidden blade and made a famous way back in Assassin’s Creed 2.

Kjotve The Cruel

Kjotve The Cruel

I fought as I did, as hard as I did, to survive. For I know what awaits us in the end.

Kjotve The Cruel is one of the secondary antagonists of this game. As a Viking leader, he was known for his brutality and cunning tactics.

In addition, he is an integral member of the Order of the Ancients, the precursor to the Templars Order seen in games like Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed Revelations

Alfred Of Wessex

Alfred Of Wessex

Be God-fearing or God-less, and this new Order will encompass all and seek to improve a man by aligning his needs with the ebb and flow of nature itself. This is my hope. This is my vow.

King Alfred is the ruler of Wessex. He is one of the game’s primary antagonists and comes face to face with Eivor several times. Being a helper of the Order of the Ancients, he would later change the doctrines of the order, helping it become the Templars Order, as we see in Assassin’s Creed 3 and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

Layla Hassan

Layla Hassan

I am, in a sense, a reader of the calculations. As the Isu were in days past. Perhaps one day I will be able to harness this talent to see into the future. To predict, to correct, to avoid. That would be worth something.

Layla Hassan is the modern-day protagonist of this game, similar to Desmond Miles from Assassins Creed 3. She joins the Assassin’s Order after they attempt to take her life. She then relives the memories of Bayek, Kassandra, and Eivor in Assassin’s Creed Origins,  Assassins Creed Odyssey, and this game.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Beginners Tips And Tricks

If you are starting out on your journey to raid the Saxons and build your own Viking settlement, then learn these Assassins Creed Valhalla tips before playing.

1. Complete The First Two Acts Of The Story As Quickly As Possible

The story of this game is by far one of the longest in this series. This makes it start out kinda slow, where you, Eivor, learn all the ropes of combat. However, the game opens up after Act 2, when you get access to stealth assassinations and the famed hidden blade.

2. Upgrade Your Arrow Quiver ASAP

Upgrade Your Arrow Quiver ASAP

Bows and arrows are the only long-range weapons you have in this game. Unlike the Air Rifle in Assassin’s Creed Rogue, this weapon is pretty versatile, with various types of arrows. However, it’s pretty easy to run out of arrows here. Therefore, upgrade your quiver to hold more arrows as soon as possible.

3. Your Adrenaline Slots Are More Useful Than They Look

Your Adrenaline Slots Are More Useful Than They Look

One of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s newer features is the stamina bar’s introduction. There are many special abilities in this game that require the use of adrenaline.

Therefore, let your inner Viking out and try to pull off headshots with the bow and stealth assassinations to fill them up for bigger battles and boss fights. I consider this to be one of the best Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Combat Tips & Tricks.

4. Raid: Viking Legends

As a Viking shieldmaiden, you must raid English settlements and make your new home there. Therefore, gather up your warriors and promise them a glorious fight to reach the gates of Valhalla.

One of the best Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tips for beginners is to build your barracks on Ravensthorpe, your settlement first, before going on raids. Also, seek out Vagn at the docks. You will know what to do after having a chat with him.

5. Upgrade And Equip Armor Sets

Upgrade And Equip Armor Sets

While you will get many weapons and armor throughout the game, they are all grouped in sets. Therefore, when equipping them, instead of combining the ones with the best stats that look hideous, equip them in sets for bonus stats.

6. More Rations = More Health

Unlike the previous games like Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, you do not recover health automatically out of combat. Therefore, you need to eat rations to heal up.

Accordingly, upgrade the number of stock rations you can carry and how much health they heal through the upgrades menu.

7. Don’t Forget Flyting

If you like rapping and want to spit out some medieval raps, then flying is the Viking way to do so. The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla flyting mechanic is a face-off of wits; you can find it on the map with blue skull icons. Keep your cool and maintain your rhythmic flow to show them who the Flyting god is.
